Welcome to The Finglas Historical Society website
The society was founded in March 2003, when a small group of likeminded people, got together
under the guidance of Paula and Anne-marie. Paula was then chief librarian in Finglas Library
and it was here that we had our first meeting.

What started out as a loose arrangement, where we would exchange ideas and old photographs, became
a society, proper, when we elected a committee. The committee consisted of Chairman, Tony Smullen,
Secretary, John Smullenand Treasurer, Linda Emmett. By this stage Paula felt we were ready to
go it alone.
We meet on the last Monday of every month, and to date we have arranged many trips and outings,
which have all been a huge success.
Our aims are simple. We feel that the Finglas area is changing rapidly and we must do our utmost
to protect what is left of the 'old' Finglas before it disappears under apartment blocks.
Being members of the society affords us an opportunity to meet old friends, make new ones and gives
us a sense of being part of a community.
The images on the left show the same scene in Finglas village. One from many years ago and one from a more recent snapshot. Click on the image to see it enlarged.
